Updates on COVID-19

View our Platinum Sports SA COVID-19 Minimum Standard Health Protocols

In light of the recent announcement made by Governor Abbot regarding relaxation of capacity limits and face covering mandates, we just want to clarify that OUR Platinum Sports SA COVID-19 Minimum Standard Health Protocols HAVE NOT CHANGED.

For our LEAGUES we still mandate NO spectators allowed courtside (including NO players not currently playing). Exception are children of players aged middle school and younger who must remain seated courtside unless accompanied by an adult to the bathroom, food court, etc.

For our LEAGUES face coverings are STILL required indoors for all who are in attendance except while actually playing/warming up ON THE COURT or eating in the cafe.

Any infractions will incur a 10-point penalty or ejection from the league. We appreciate teams/players helping us out and letting your referee, health monitor, or us know if you see any infractions.

These Platinum Sports SA League rules apply to ANY location we host our leagues, currently Mission Concepcion Sports Park and Force Sports Center. While the GYM location itself might relax their safety rules in light of the Governor’s announcement, OUR Platinum Sports SA rules override and must still be followed. DO NOT ask the gymnasium for guidance on these rules, you must follow our Platinum Sports SA rules to play in our leagues.

Thanks for your help in helping us to continue with our leagues.

FEBRUARY 25, 2021 – TWO TOURNAMENTS scheduled for March 28, 2021.
It’s been a year but we have decided to finally host two tournaments in March 2021.  All in attendance will be required to wear a face covering/mask at all times including when playing.
Platinum Sports SA COED Indoor Volleyball Tourney, 8AM-2:30PM. $100/team.
Platinum Sports SA MEN’S & WOMEN’S  Indoor Volleyball Tourney, 3-9:30PM. $100/team.
For more information: Tourney General Info

Due to the increase in COVID cases in the San Antonio area, and because we want to be able to continue providing safe indoor volleyball leagues to the community, we are implementing the following policies effective immediately.

*Spectators & players not playing will not be allowed to remain courtside in the gym (exception are children of players and children must stay sitting courtside). Spectators and players not playing can remain in the cafe/lobby area and must wear a face covering. If conditions get crowded in the cafe/lobby area, spectators and possibly players will be asked to wait outside the building to maintain safe social distancing.

*Arrive on your court no earlier than 15 minutes prior to your match start time and immediately leave after you are done playing.

*Consumption of food will not be allowed courtside in the gymnasium. All consumption of food must be done in the cafe area or outside the building. Drinking is acceptable in the gymnasium as long as it is done quickly and face coverings are immediately put back on. If you prefer to take your time quenching your thirst then take it to the cafe or outside.

*Our players (and spectators/children) are not allowed to use or play on courts that are not rented by us EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT BEING USED. Do NOT get on the court!

*We will be implementing PENALTIES for not following our policies. After a clear warning, we will begin docking 10 points at the beginning of the next set for any offenses including those made by the team’s spectators/children.

It is our PRIORITY to maintain a safe environment so that everyone can continue to feel comfortable playing in our leagues and stay safe. While we do not force players to wear face coverings while playing AT THIS TIME, that may change if we see our rules are not being followed or if conditions worsen. Remember that regardless of the precautions taken the risk is still there.

We hope you are enjoying the leagues and we look forward to getting past this pandemic. Take care and stay safe!

JANUARY 4, 2021 – We have cancelled our February 7, 2021 Volleyball Tournament.  The current plan is to proceed with the March 28, 2021 tournament and require face coverings at all times (even when playing).  More details on the March tournament will be posted as we near the March 1 registration date. Thanks for your patience!

DECEMBER 21, 2020 – We have cancelled our January 9, 2021 Volleyball Tournament.  We shall see how conditions are and decide in early January if we will host our February 7, 2021 Volleyball Tourney. We ask you to continue to help the community by staying safe so that we can continue to provide these leagues and tournaments soon.

OCTOBER 11, 2020 – We have cancelled all 2020 Volleyball Tournaments.  We hope to continue January 2021.

JULY 30, 2020 – We have decided to CANCEL the August 15 Volleyball Tournament. The leagues are still on. Hopefully it will be safe enough for us to be able to host the September 12 Volleyball Tournament. We ask you to please help SA stop the spread of COVID-19 by wearing a mask and using social distance when possible.  Thanks for your cooperation and let’s play and stay safe.

JULY 12, 2020 – MCSP has informed us that they will be doing temperature scans and health questionnaires on individuals entering the facility. Any person with a temperature above 100 degrees will not be allowed to enter and will be turned away. Each person may also be asked a series of general health questions. These additional precautions are per recent state, county, and city ordinances. ALL other COVID rules remain the same so please be sure to review the health protocols online at our website at Platinum Sports SA COVID-19 Minimum Standard Health Protocols

And a reminder to all our members about the risks of attending our events. While we and MCSP are taking measures to ensure as safe an environment as we can, the risk is still there that there will be members who are infected or have been exposed to COVID…the risk is there! While face coverings are not required while playing, members are encouraged to wear one for their own safety and for the safety of others. We continue to ask players who find out that they are infected, to please let us know as we will need those members to withdraw from playing! We feel responsible to inform others who may have been exposed to the infected members and we must also report it to MCSP. In addition, members should assume there are other members there who have been exposed to COVID as a real risk while playing in our events. We want to continue our events for our members, but we need your cooperation in assuring a safe environment and hope exposed players take appropriate precautions. Please help us do that.

JUNE 29, 2020 – Due to the recent surge in COVID cases, Mission Concepcion Sports Park (MCSP) gym has scaled back their limited capacity restrictions to NOW allowing only 25% capacity.  We WILL CONTINUE with our Summer 2 Indoor Volleyball Leagues at this time but must CANCEL the July 12 Volleyball Tournament

While spectators are still allowed we ask you to severely limit the spectator numbers. There will be NO seating available for spectators/players. DO NOT bring chairs nor pull down bleachers otherwise we may have to revoke spectator attendance and teams may be made to wait outdoors. If we see that we are reaching capacity at any given time throughout the night, spectators will be asked to step outside the facility followed by teams waiting to play if necessary. EVERY PERSON (aged 2 and older) not actively playing or warming up is required to wear a face covering while inside the facility.

Continue to follow Platinum Sports SA Health Protocols as they will be strictly enforced. Thanks for your cooperation and let’s play and stay safe.

JUNE 10, 2020 – Per Mission Concepcion Sports Park (MCSP) gym, we can now allow spectators WITH FACE COVERINGS at our events. Spectators must remain with the player/team. We ask you to continue to minimize numbers whenever possible as we still have limits in place. There will be NO BLEACHERS or CHAIRS courtside. Recommend players bring towels or blankets to sit on.  ALL OTHER RULES REMAIN IN PLACE!! Please continue to check online at our website for further updates. Thanks for your patience.

JUNE 8, 2020 – Mission Concepcion Sports Park (MCSP) gym has been authorized by recent state guidelines to relax their limited capacity restrictions to NOW allowing 50% capacity.  This should help us to allow our players and staff to stay indoors in the gym when waiting for play AS LONG AS each continues to wear a face covering if not currently playing, warming up, or reffing.  All other rules are still enforced including no spectators/family as we want to reserve what space is available for our players. Thanks and hope to see you on the court.

JUNE 1, 2020 – Hello Platinum friends,

We ARE planning on proceeding with the June 15 start of our indoor leagues and the July 12 Indoor Volleyball Tournament. Registration for leagues and the tournament will open on June 5.

We will not be able to host our recently implemented Beginners League (with a coach) at this time but all other divisions will be open for registration for both leagues and the tournament. We cannot tell you if there will be enough teams in a particular division. It’s best to just go ahead and register when it opens and as teams register we will work with captains/teams if we need to combine or drop out divisions.

We HIGHLY recommend you start getting your teams together and ready to register on June 5 as we will be restricted on the number of teams for leagues and ESPECIALLY for the tournament. All team & player fees remain the same, no changes. Return to play Platinum Sports SA COVID-19 rules will be implemented and can be found at our website at https://www.PlatinumSportsSA.com.

We are pleased that we can get our players back on the court and ask for your continued patience and understanding as we work out the kinks. Take care and stay safe.

MAY 22, 2020 – Mission Concepcion Sports Park (MCSP) has TENTATIVELY given us a start date of June 15 for our indoor volleyball events to be held at their gymnasium with occupancy restrictions. This means our June 7 Tournament is cancelled BUT our plan is to open up indoor volleyball league REGISTRATION in early June and to BEGIN LEAGUE PLAY on June 15 for Coed, and June 16 for Women/Men.

There will be many changes for this season to ensure as safe an environment as feasibly possible and we will be asking a lot from our players and referees to help ensure it. A couple of these new rules will be spectators are discouraged from attending (there will be no bleacher/seating area) and no children will be allowed. In addition, we will accept only electronic forms of payment and no payments will be accepted in person. Payment deadlines will most likely be earlier than usual. We will continue to coordinate with Mission Concepcion Sports Park and cooperate with city ordinances in place and will provide another update prior to June 1.

We know you have a lot of questions, and we are doing our best to ensure we have the right answers for you. Please be patient with us and stay safe!

From your Platinum Sports SA friends
Brenda, Anita, and our referees, directors, and coaches

APRIL 16, 2020 – Hi Platinum Sports SA family!

Just checking in and hoping everyone is well. We wanted to update you to let you know that we are postponing the start date for any of our volleyball events to at least June 1, 2020. This means the May 3 Tournament is cancelled and the start of our next league season will be no sooner than June 1. We are coordinating with Mission Concepcion Sports Park and cooperating with city ordinances in place. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide an update prior to June 1.

So continue to practice social distancing so that we can all get back to having fun playing volleyball as soon as it’s safe. We would also love to stay connected with you via our Facebook or Instagram,…comment on our posts or just say hello!

Please everyone take care and hope to see you all soon. We miss you!

From your Platinum Sports SA friends
Brenda, Anita, and our referees, directors, and coaches

Monday, March 16, 4:00PM – We are cancelling the remainder of this season’s leagues (Spring 1), cancelling the March 29 Tournament, and postponing the start of next season’s (Spring 2) leagues. Per direction from SA City leaders, MCSP has informed us that they are being prohibited (with penalty) from exceeding 50 people in the gym at all times to include their staff and cannot take the chance of exceeding the prohibited limit with groups such as ours attending. They have cancelled their group events and court reservations for at least a week and will be reviewing the situation weekly.

We will be contacting each Spring 1 Season Captain INDIVIDUALLY to provide more information. Please be patient as we have over 85 individuals to contact individually.

We appreciate your patience and hope America recovers quickly so that we can all get back to playing the sport we love.

Monday, March 16, 11:45AM – As of this time MCSP has confirmed they will remain open. The changes to the schedule is an effort to reduce the number of people in the gym at one time.

Please see the attached schedule for this week only and be sure you are using REVISION 1. Some divisions have a BYE week this week so NEXT WEEK, Mar 23/24, those divisions will play their matches. You may also view the schedule at our website.

The tentative plan after that is to begin playoffs on March 30/31 and most likely the start of Spring 2 Season will be postponed with an unknown start date. Plans may change and we will keep you posted. Be safe and enjoy the workout.

Sunday, March 15, 10:00PM – Today the Center for Disease Control announced new recommendations that organizers across the country cancel or postpone in-person events with 50 or more people for the next eight weeks. We still do not have direction or guidance from Mission Concepcion Sports Park as to whether they will leave their doors open or shut down, but we expect to hear from them by noon tomorrow (Monday). Being a non-profit organization, these dire events wreak financial havoc for Platinum Sports SA and we are attempting to do our best to keep the organization up and running and to still provide you volleyball opportunities if possible. In the spirit of the CDC’s new recommendations, we will be adjusting schedules so as to significantly reduce the number of participants attending throughout the night to a number closer to the CDC recommendations.

PLEASE PASS THIS INFO ALONG TO YOUR PLAYERS. These will be the adjusted schedules for the next two weeks if MCSP remains open:
Monday, March 16 only Coed Divisions C, Beginners League, and Advanced will play.
Tuesday, March 17 only Women’s B division, Beginners League, and Men’s will play.
Monday, March 23 only Coed Divisions B & A will play.
Tuesday, March 24 only Women’s A & Advanced Modified will play.

In addition, because we have no guidance at this time from MCSP regarding gym closure, we cannot tell you if missed matches will be made up/postponed or cancelled, nor if next season’s league’s or the March 29 Tournament are in jeopardy. We continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates to our members through our website (https://www.PlatinumSportsSA.com), Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/PlatinumSportsSA/), and email.

We appreciate your patience with us during these troubling times and your help in reducing the spread of COVID-19. Thank you.

Saturday, March 14, 3:30PM – As of this time, (Saturday March 14 @ 3:30pm), we are continuing with volleyball leagues as scheduled. The decision to participate is at your discretion, at your own risk, but we feel the need to provide an option for getting some much needed exercise. Please just let us know if your team will not be participating so that we can have an idea if there will be enough players/teams. We will waive the minimum number of players required to play down from 4 to 3 players and also waive roster restrictions to allow players from other teams not currently on your roster to help out teams short on players. Please continue to follow our policy by only selecting players one level away from your current team’s level.

Preparedness is key, and therefore, we continue to track the recommendations and guidelines established by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), and the San Antonio Health Department as they continue to monitor the situation closely. We urge all participants to join us in creating a safe environment and help prevent the spread of any virus including colds and flus. Please protect yourself and our volleyball community by following these basic routines:

*Please leave loved ones and spectators at home where possible so as to minimize the number of people in the gym.
*Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, before and after playing, and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. MCSP has also added sanitizer stations.
*Minimize physical contact with others. Use air fives, waves, or elbow bumps instead. It’s important to NOT touch your face until you’ve had a chance to wash or use sanitizer.
*AND if you’re sick PLEASE STAY HOME and get better!

The decision to proceed, restrict, modify or postpone an athletic competition will based on availability of community resources and ongoing event-specific risk assessment in coordination with the relevant healthcare and government authorities.

Visit our website to keep updated about our events: https://www.PlatinumSportsSA.com  If and when any of our events are impacted, emails will be sent to those registered for that event. We appreciate your understanding. Be safe and get some exercise!
